Lingerie 101: C-Strings, G-Strings, All Strings - Part 1

We know what you're thinking and yes, this might be a very basic post, and yes, we don't doubt you already know your lingerie. But do you? This is a fantastic introduction that every woman (or man? We're looking at you, Homme Mystere) should read before diving headfirst into the vast and ever-expanding world of lingerie.

First up, a brassiere, commonly known as a bra. A bra is used to support a woman's breasts and is usually worn as an undergarment. But these days, most bras are pretty enough to wear on their own. The bra has been around since the 19th century although the idea dates back to ancient Greece. Nowadays a woman literally has a million different types of bras to choose from, be it a plunge cut, bandeau, padded, underwired, or made from cotton, lace, leather, etc.; the ball is in your court. Madonna even made the cone bra popular for a (very brief) moment. Love it or not, it seems like the bra is here to stay.

Next up, panties. Also known as underwear, knickers, drawers, chones, briefs, or any number of titles. Along with many other fashion trends we can credit to the French, panties (or bobettes, mes chéris) were in vogue during the Revolution in the 18th century. Underwear can be found in every cut, color, shape, and made in any material under the sun. Used universally as the barrier between bare flesh and outer clothing, underwear is then divided into a multitude of other sub-categories. Hang onto your hats because this list is so expansive that we've got to cut it into a two-parter.

The thong. The loincloth is thought to be the precursor to the thong but now, the modern thong is made with very little cloth in the back and usually just enough to cover your bits in the front. Showcased by Brazilian women and sumo wrestlers everywhere, the thong's popularity skyrocketed worldwide with the debut of low-rise jeans in the early 2000s, along with many other fashions your dear author would rather forget (specifically Ugg boots and ponchos). Thongs for men? Oh yes, we've got that too. You've seen them on bodybuilders and Magic Mike. You can also find thongs in tons of different colors and made from different materials.

But do you know the difference between a G-String, C-String, T-String, and a maebari?

Stay tuned - we'll delve into these mysterious alphabetically titled Strings in our next blog post!
